The Mediterranean of the mountains

This year an unexpected topic, much like the unexpected beauty of Zagorochoria and Vikos Gorge, has fascinated us in the land beyond: the Mediterannean of the mountains, less known but not least important.

So we talked and we got acquainted to this notion of the Mediterannean, the mountaineous one; Being motivated both by Fernand Braudel, author of "The Mediterannean and the mediterannean people in the era of Philip the second” and David Abbulafia, author of "The Great Sea”, we started exploring our region: about the rocks and the geological formations until the numerous and beneficial mountain herbs. About peoples’ life, prehistoric and historic times. Later on we enjoyed making our own origami creations under the instructions and guidance of master Dimitris Dallas.

We visited the Information Centre of the National Park of Northern Pindos, the well-known stone bridges of Kokkoros and Kalogeriko, Kapessovo and other villages, we hiked in Beloi, we did rafting at Voidomatis river; we climbed at Astraka where we spent the night at the refuge; the next morning we went to Drakolimni of Tymphi. Everyone got his/her award and the ceremony was followed by music and dance. Fifty persons had – for one more time - a fantastic time in the land beyond.
