Inspiration with an altitude, in Feidous Library

We are open and we are waiting for you - at 1,000 meters altitude on the mountain in Ano Vitsa, in Central Zagori, where you will find Building C where C = Knowledge. By knowledge we do not mean only the conventional content of education, information, experience, and even wisdom. 

Knowledge is what man himself seeks to discover, the agony of the "truth", the "after", the well-hidden secrets of happiness or success, a state of intoxication, learning which is a personal affair, as a continuation or and in contrast to "objective" knowledge, learning as an end in itself and as a non-mortal being like the soul.

"Then we see how far more resilient are the monuments of spirit and learning than the monuments of power or hands. For Homer's verses would not have continued for more than twenty-five hundred years without losing a syllable or a letter, during which incomplete palaces, temples, castles, cities have declined or been destroyed ”(Francis Bacon).

Important components of this approach are the conscientiousness and the disposition to associate with the different, what we do not know and what we would like to know, beyond.

This summer, the Knowledge Building is being piloted. The land beyond opens its doors to all visitors to Zagori, athletes, hikers and climbers, those who just love walking, writers and travelers, young and old, Greeks from all over the world, families, couples, friends and companions. In Epikentro, the ground floor of the Gnosi building, as well as the reference point for everyone, you can find out about the land beyond, the pillars and areas of interest we focus on (as well as the framework of our library), the activities that "run" and our future plans as a civil society organization.

The land beyond is a place of simultaneous pursuit of the inconceivable unknown, which is uncertainty as a constant lever of knowledge and the "oligarchic abundance" which is frugality. Uncertainty unites, beliefs (prejudices) divide. We gave it the name Library of F(e)idous, because on the same day in the brand new building where the placement of the books from the boxes was completed, on the eve of 15th of August, 2019, a snake appeared unpredictably in the reading room, on a chair! Thus it seems that the appearance of the akakos snake that has been observed there for many years during the days of the 15th of August, passing through the Ionian Islands to Epirus, offers luck, healing, wisdom.

In the library you will find a remarkable collection of books - based on a personal archive - but also enriched with some book donations. A much wider electronic library is being prepared - a database, based on the same framework, in our main areas of interest, which will be accessible to all users on the spot. There are computers (desktop and laptop), papers, pencils and anything else for those who need them. Option to use photocopier and scanning. And above all in the library you will find a place of inspiration, literacy, study, writing, a place of personal appropriation of knowledge, that is, unique learning.

In the library we keep quiet as in the land beyond we keep calm. Conditions of concentration, lack of distractions, personal balance, self-awareness. Do you want to read your book quietly? You are welcome to sit in the courtyard of World Café and enjoy the pleasant coolness and oxygen of the mountain with a cup of fairtrade coffee that we offer to our guests. Webinars, video-conferences, etc. music communication are allowed with headphones.

The Knowledge Building is located in the largest National Park in Greece, in a border area that suffers from abandonment, in the footsteps of the deep tradition that knowledge maintains here, in the country of teachers and benefactors, and is based on a basically tourist economy.
